Environmental Sciences Department
The Environmental Sciences Department employs a diverse staff of scientists and specialists to identify and solve water quality problems. San Antonio River Authority (SARA) staff is able to offer a wide range of services to protect and preserve the water resources of the basin.
Field Operations
This section collects water quality samples, flows, collects and analyzes fish communities, aquatic insect communities and aquatic habitats and prepares technical reports on their findings. Field Operation personnel also assist in community outreach. Field Operations staff also investigate pollutions complaints.
Laboratory Operations
This section analyzes samples brought to the laboratory by field staff, other agencies, and the general public. Laboratory personnel communicate with our clients, assisting in the interpretation of their data. Laboratory personnel document each step of the analytical process from sample acceptance to the generation of results. As a result of the extensive documentation they are able to trace each step of analysis (from who prepared an reagent, to who read the results.) The laboratory is staffed seven days a week.
Assessments and Planning Activities
This section is responsible for water quality planning, quality assurance, data management, administrative assistance, and document review. Assessments and Planning is also involved in the development of Geographic Information System (GIS).
