In the Spring of 2004, the San Antonio River Authority commissioned a planning study entitled "The San Antonio River Basin Plan for Nature-Based Park Resources." Phase I was adopted by the SARA Board of Directors on February 16, 2005. Phase II was initiated in the Spring of 2005, andwas adopted by the Board of Directors on April 19, 2006. The plan promotes a regional approach to park planning and conservation of the San Antonio River Basin’s natural resources. This approach leads to a greater level of coordination among park-planning agencies, reduces funding competition and strengthens park project grant applications from the various governmental entities in the basin.
