After November 30, 2009, the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) will no longer operate Braunig Lake and Calaveras Lake Parks. Property owner CPS Energy will keep the lake parks open under new management, who will honor existing permits and reservations.

The San Antonio River Authority thanks all past and present park users for over 40 years of patronage to these lake parks. We encourage you to continue using them for various outdoor recreational activities.

For more information regarding Braunig Lake Park and Calaveras Lake Park, please contact CPS Energy at krkurburski@cpsenergy.com.

The San Antonio River Authority has been in the public parks business for over 35 years. In 1967 and 1970, SARA entered into agreements with City Public Service Energy allowing SARA to operate and manage Braunig and Calaveras Lake Parks, respectively. In March, 2005, SARA began the operation and management of Jackson Nature Park through an agreement with Wilson County. And in late 2006, SARA will operate 2 access sites on the San Antonio River in Goliad County to establish the first segment of the Goliad Paddling Trail.

SARA partners with communities throughout the San Antonio River Basin to design, plan, obtain funding for, and implement parks projects. SARA also works with communities to find innovative and appropriate ways to utilize floodplain properties to enhance the Basin’s quality of life.

SARA believes that regional, multi-agency partnerships result in greater rewards for the entire Basin. Together, we can nurture our parks and natural resources while creating outdoor wellness and educational opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages.
